21 Questions....interviewed by Lauren Jones

1. What is your full name, age, and hometown?

Damon Jevon Wilkerson. I'm 24 and from Hopkins aka Hoptown South Carolina.

2. What brings you to Georgia?

Business. Well the Air Force told me to be here, so I showed up.

3.What exactly do you do in the Air Force?

Honestly, I'm not supposed to say for sure. Let's just say that what I do for a living helps kill bad people and keeps good people alive.

4. Let's switch it up now: What is your favorite movie right now? All-time?

Right now I watch Idlewild a lot. But my all-time favorite movie is the Back to the Future trilogy.

5. Those are very different genres. What drew you to those kinds of movies?

Well with Idlewild it was Outkast. That's my favorite music group. With Back to the Future its the story and effects. One of the best plots ever. The future is cool.

6. Speaking of music, what are you currently bumpin'?

That new Kanye West, old Outkast, Killer Mike, Lil' Wayne, Corrinne Bailey Rae...

7. Corrinne Bailey Rae? Kinda soft don't you think?

Naw. Sometimes you got to listen to something that doesn't strike the same emotions as hip hop music. Like Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, John Legend. Smoother shit to mellow you out. I listen to all kinda of stuff.

8. Do you also like your women like you like your music?

I think so. Black is beautiful but I find women sexy as a whole. That means I don't discriminate between races. I may one day marry a Black woman but if I didn't the lady I'm with will be the one I love. No matter her race. I don't care who has a problem with that. Similar skin color doesn't make everyone else bad. Look at my friends; Asian, white, black, mixed, etc

9. Nice world view. Got any kids?

Naw. I wanna have at least two someday. A boy and a girl. Already got the names picked. Now that's sounds soft doesn't it? (laughs)

10. What are their names?

If its a girl - Sanaa. Like Sanaa Lathan. If a boy - David Tolvin Wilkerson. I like the name David and Tolvin was my grandfather's middle name.

11. Are your grand parents still alive?

No. My grandfather died when I was 11 years old. My grandmother died in 2005.

12. How hard was that for you?

Aww man. (pauses) My grandfather's funeral was the first I'd ever been to in my life. I wasn't gonna go at first but my cousin convinced me to. My mom and grandmother cried their eyes out but I just couldn't. I've never cried at a funeral. Not at my dad's mother, or my mom's mother's funerals either. Weird huh?

13. Got a reason for the stone cold nature?

I use to cry all the time when I was a very small child. One day I just decided crying doesn't change anything for me. It might make people feel better I guess. Or I'm trying to be strong for other people. That might be it. Like, "you sleep, I'll keep watch".

14. Home alarm system - gun or dog?

Dog. I love dogs. God has blessed me with some of the best dogs a man could have. I wanna get a English bulldog when I get the chance. I'll name him Bumper. Girls love a man with a dog.

15. Let's go deeper. What was your last relationship like?

It was weird in a way. Everything was cool until.(pauses) What do you do when the feelings just change. You don't see the person the same way.

16. How about this then. What's your relationship with your mother like?

She's my road dog. My biggest cheerleader. Ride or die for me. (laughs) Since I ain't around too much anymore she doesn't rely on me for all the answers. So now she goin' back to puttin' her foot in people's asses. Like her daddy did.

17. Would you want your girl to be the same way?

Hell yeah! I want a girl who has the mentality that you either tell me to walk away from the situation or tell me to bust that muthafucka's nose!(laughs) If a girl gives her shit she gives them a chance to apologize then she puts the bitch in her place. Like on some Pam Grier level: smart, sexy, and capable of fucking you up.(laughs)

18. As long as she doesn't go Coffy on you. How do you attract this Friday Foster?

People tell me I'm funny. I just try to entertain myself(pauses) If you wanna laugh, go ahead. I believe the best thing I can do is be myself. If a girl doesn't like me, something is wrong with her. She really is missing out on one of the best people she'd ever meet.(laughing)

19. Is that confidence or cockiness?

Its a defense mechanism to protect me from gettin' hurt by some damn female again! It weeds out all the people who ain't worth shit. After you've known me for a while(pauses) and you still don't like me. Fuck you! Don't need you. But on the other hand, if we cool like that(pauses) I love you! I'll fight for you, even when you probably in the wrong. I'd just tell you about it later.(laughs)

20. Alright, here is a tough one. Name the one girl in your lifetime that you wish you still had contact with? Her real name?

Wow! That's a bad question! Actually, there are two girls.(pauses) But if I had to pick between them(pauses again) I'd have to say Valencia. You know somebody for 12 years of your life then "poof", they're gone. Not a phone call, letter, stray e-mail. Nothing. You'd think that in 6 years we'd see each other by accident by now. Right? The other chick(pauses briefly) I only knew her for a short time but I pretty much fell in love with her . I could get on my cell right now and call her but I can't bring myself to do it. I don't think the conversation would go well.

21. Final question. What is a dream that you have for yourself?

It may sound small but it is my dream to one day have my own design firm. In some capacity as a clothing line, website, art gallery I'd want to get my artwork seen by the world. Its the only thing that pushes me to draw now. Currently its not pushing too hard. I guess after I travel the world a little more I'll get back my groove.
